restricted access Note on Transliterations
In lieu of an abstract, here is a brief excerpt of the content:

N o t e o n T r a n s l i t e r a t i o n s In transliterating spoken Hindi in this text, I have taken the simplest approach, though it has meant diverging from technically precise transliteration . For smoother reading, I have avoided diacritical markings and have not differentiated between long and short vowels, dental and palatal fricatives, and so on, maintaining only the most basic conventions. Where names are concerned, I have transliterated according to convention rather than followed transliteration guidelines (therefore, Pooja or Puja instead of Pūjā or Puujaa).
