The Department of Romance Languages and Literatures, The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill

The Department of Romance Languages and Literatures at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is home to two academic journals, Hispanófila and Romance Notes, and a monograph series, the North Carolina Studies in Romance Languages and Literatures (NCSRLL). Hispanófila, publishing on any literary, linguistic, or cultural topic dealing with the Spanish and Portuguese-speaking worlds, was brought to the University in 1968. Romance Notes, accepting articles on any literary, cultural, or linguistic topic dealing with Romance studies, was founded in 1959. The NCSRLL book series has also built its own legacy with nearly 300 titles in print since its initiation in 1940.

Hispanófila

Vol. 151 (2008) through current issue

Hispanófila, a journal that accepts essays on any literary, linguistic, or cultural topic dealing with the Spanish and Portuguese-speaking worlds, appears three times a year. Articles may be written in English, Spanish, or Portuguese. Only work that has not been previously published is considered for publication with Hispanófila. The journal, founded by Professor Alva V. Ebersole, was brought to the Department of Romance Languages at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1968. Juan Carols González Espitia is the current Editor and, to date, the journal has published 160+ issues as of 2012.

Romance Notes

Vol. 47 (2006) through current issue

Romance Notes, a journal that accepts articles on any literary, cultural, or linguistic topic dealing with Romance studies, appears three times a year Articles, or “notes” as they are called, can be written in any Romance language and in English and should be between 3.000 and 5.000 words. Romance Notes was founded in 1959 by Professor U. T. Holmes, Jr., and is now led by Professor Oswaldo Estrada. It has more than fifty annual volumes published as of 2012.
