ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS I would like to express my sincere appreciation to the Cambodian people for their openness and hospitality during my sojourn in their beautiful country. I am indebted to the Ministry of Agriculture , Forestry and Fisheries and the Ministry of the Environment of the Kingdom of Cambodia for their support and access to vital information sources. My research and writing was supported by several institutions , most notably the Fonds Français pour l’Environnement Mondial (FFEM), the Agence Française de Développement (AFD) with whom the idea of the book was born, the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation via its commitment to Conservation International (CI), and the Oxford Martin School and the Oxford Centre for Tropical Forests at Oxford University, where most of the text was actually written. I am beholden to Conservation International for providing me with the freedom to pursue an in-depth study of this nature.
