503 Appendix List of interviewees according to quotations Fieldwork 2009 (28.06. - 01.11.09) Interviews 2009 I conducted 52 formal interviews with New Media users during my field stay in 2009. Since I have not quoted of all of the interviews, I will not list all the interviewees here. All the names are invented. With most of the interviewees in this range I followed up a longterm relationship. Only a few of these interviews were recorded. A range of four of the interviews was added to this group in 2011. Nine of the interviewees I interviewed again – with other key points – min 2010/11. This series of interviews was dedicated to examine youth’s internet and mobile phone uses in their daily lives. Occasional Internet Users Name: Andrea / Date of the interview: 03.10.11 / Indication O (Interview added 2011) Person: Female. 24 years. She lived in her family’s compound, with 3 younger sisters and brothers, her grandmother and parents. Three elder sisters and brothers were abroad. A sisters children also lived in the compound – she was in South Africa. A brother was in the US and another in Belgium. Andrea was doing a nursing formation. She was not often going to the cyber café, since they had internet access in their house. Relation to the interviewer: Andrea was not that close, but I saw her regularly within a long period of time. Situation of the interview: In her home, the grandmother and her sister’s children were also partly present. 504 Name: Caroline / Date of the interview: 04.10.11 / Indication O (Interview added 2011) Person: Female. 23 years old. She studied at BUST, near Bamenda, doing nursing. Her father died long ago, the mother just recently. She used to live in the SW Province. She had three brothers, one in Bamenda the others in Dschang. She was a born again, her church members were important to her, and she also worked for the church. Relation to the interviewer: I had not seen Caroline all that often, but regularly. I know her since 2008. I also went to visit her at the students hostel where she lived. Situation of the interview: In a restaurant in Bamenda, we were a bit under time pressure because she had to leave soon. Name: Cynthia / Date of the interview: 14.08.09 / Indication O Person: Female. 37 years old. She was working in a nursing department in a school in Batibo. She was only in Bamenda during holidays and sometimes weekends. She had a house in Bamenda and in Batibo. She was not married and childless, despite her age. She had eight siblings, all of them in Cameroon in different cities. A range of cousins were in the US. She had tried to go there several times but her visa requests were denied. Relation to the interviewer: I did not know Cynthia closely. She was a friend of a friend of mine, and she wanted to talk to me, so I had decided to make an interview out of it. Situation of the interview: In her house. Name: Elene / Date of the interview: 02.10.11 / Indication O (Interview added 2011) Person: Female. 23 years old. She was married with two children, four and six years old. She and her husband rented a house in Bamenda. She used to work as a hairdresser in Douala. Then they moved here because her husband had a job, now he was jobless again. At the time of the interview she went to afternoon classes to complete her A-levels. Before she used to work at a call box. Now she was taking care of a neighbour’s shop and also sells credit. Relation to the interviewer: When Elene still used to do callbox in town, we saw each other often. Later on I visited her a few times in her house.
