The Hong Kong Construction Association The Hong Kong Construction Association (HKCA) represents building and civil engineering contractors in Hong Kong and has done so for the past 7S years. The Association is the public face of the industry and maintains a high profile in Hong Kong. Its objectives are: to promote the consideration and discussion of all questions affecting the construction industry, and generally to watch over and protect the interests of persons engaged in the construction industry, to originate and promote improvements in the law and to support or oppose alterations therein, and to effect improvements in administration, and, for the purposes aforesaid, to petition the Authorities, and take such other steps and proceedings as may be deemed expedient, to promote excellence in the construction of buildings, and just and honourable practice in the conduct of business and to suppress malpractice, to arrange and promote the adoption of equitable forms of contracts and other documents used in the construction industry and to encourage settlement of disputes by arbitration and to act as or nominate arbitrators and umpires on such terms and in such cases as may seem expedient. In 1989 the original name, the Building Contractors' Association (BCA), was changed to the Hong Kong Construction Association (HKCA) primarily to remedy a misunderstanding which was prevalent that only building contractors were represented by the Association. In fact, the Association numbers many civil engineering contractors among its members, including international members from Japan, China, Australia and other countries. Currently the Association has about 3S0 member companies . The Association is represented on all significant external boards and committees associated with construction established by Government and other bodies.
