Appendix Ill: Studio Bulletins To: pinup@architecture.ubc Subject: Bulletin #1, Strategy The overall strategy is open to the individual initiative of each participant and might require considerable problem solving skills on the part of all. This is the first bulletin discussing the technical aspects of the project. 1. Solid Model: The use of a solid modeller is encouraged. AME (Advanced Modelling Extension) is availablewith v.11 AutoCad in all schools. When posting your models in the library, make sure that all solids are converted to mesh representation (using SOLMESH command ) before you DXF out your models to rendering software like WavefrontAdvanced Visualizer. Keep your model simple. 2. Surface Model: ShouId you use asurface modeller please mark your file accordingly. Make sure that your model is consistently surfaced so the normals can be easily reversed. Ifpossible run atest render before posting your model. Keep your model simple. 3. Naming of the files: The use of a consistent file naming procedure has to be agreed upon a-priori. For example the file name 'tom-sec1.dwg' will stand for: 'tom-' = designer name (max 4 characters); 'sec1'; = section version 1, could be also 'pln2', 'elv3' (max. 4 characters); '.dwg' = file type, could be also.dxf,.obj,.rgb,.tif,.sgi (max. 3 characters). 4. Data Transfer: Importing and exporting files from The Digital Pinup Board (DPB) will be done over Internet with FTP (File Transfer Procedure) and with staff assistance . The acceptable file formats are: DXF (binary or ASCII), DWG (Acad. v.11, binary), SGI (bit map compressed on SGI, binary), TIF (bit map compressed in UNIX, binary). When a new design file is posted on the Digital Pinup Board, a brief description of it issued via email would be helpful. 5. DPB Login Procedures: The login procedures and pass words to access the Digital Pinup Board will be issued at a later date. 6. Hand-out Material: Analog: Slides, Measured Drawings.
