INDUSTRIAL ZONES GENERAL BACKGROUN D The Industrial' (I ) zoning is planned t o provide spac e for industria l activities . Yet, owin g t o th e restructurin g proces s o f th e economy , mos t industria l establishments i n Hon g Kon g hav e bee n relocate d t o mainlan d Chin a an d premises i n factor y building s vacant . Tw o trend s i n industria l zon e development ca n be observed. One is the redevelopment o f industrial building s into offic e o r industrial/offic e buildings . Anothe r i s th e chang e i n us e i n a n existing industrial buildin g into office an d showroo m uses . Up unti l Septembe r 1999 , th e Tow n Plannin g Boar d ha d provide d fou r sets o f guidelines fo r application s unde r 'Industrial ' zoning .
