ii The Saw Centre for Financial Studies was established at the National UniversityofSingaporeon1December2003.TheCentreisnamedafter adistinguishedNUSalumnusProfessorSawSwee-Hock,whosegenerous endowed gift has enabled the founding of this Centre. The Saw Centre issituatedwithinthevibrantcommunityoftherenownedNUSBusiness School. The Saw Centre’s purpose is to conduct quality research, educational activitiesandtrainingprogrammesrelatedtothefinancialservicesindustry intheAsiaPacificregion.Withtheresourcesoftheuniversityandactive contribution from industry professionals, it is a resource centre that will benefitbothacademicsandpractitioners. The Saw Centre also hosts visiting academics with the Department of Finance at the NUS Business School for the purpose of teaching and research. TheEastAsianInstitute(EAI)wassetupinApril1997asanautonomous researchorganizationunderastatuteoftheNationalUniversityofSingapore. ItisthesuccessoroftheformerInstituteofEastAsianPoliticalEconomy (IEAPE), which was itself the successor of the Institute of East Asian Philosophies(IEAP),originallyestablishedbyDrGohKengSweein1983for thestudyofConfucianism.ThemainmissionofEAIistopromoteacademic andpolicy-orientedresearchoncontemporaryChina,includingHongKong, TaiwanandMacau,andotherEastAsianeconomies.Thelong-termvision ofEAIistodevelopintotheregion’sforemostresearchinstitutiononEast Asiandevelopment,withastrongfocusonChina.Formoreinformation onEAI,pleasevisit. TheInstituteofSoutheastAsianStudies(ISEAS)wasestablishedasan autonomousorganizationin1968.Itisaregionalcentrededicatedtothe studyofsocio-political,securityandeconomictrendsanddevelopmentsin SoutheastAsiaanditswidergeostrategicandeconomicenvironment.The Institute’sresearchprogrammesaretheRegionalEconomicStudies(RES,including ASEANandAPEC),RegionalStrategicandPoliticalStudies(RSPS), andRegionalSocialandCulturalStudies(RSCS). ISEAS Publishing, an established academic press, has issued almost 2,000 books and journals.
