THE GENESIS OF THE EXEMPLARS, REPRESENTED BY A DIAGRAM A stemma codicum was established on the basis of the information gathered from three sources: 1) the explicit pecia transitions in some manuscripts copied from the first and second university exemplars, 2) the results of the general test collation which revealed the relationships among the manuscripts , and 3) the collation of certain manuscripts in their entirety. Providing this diagram, as helpful as it may be as a visual aid, may oversimplify the complexity of the living nature of these manuscripts which have histories. Some of these histories entail corrections over time, and this is difficult to present in a two-dimensional scheme.
