ACKNOWLEDGMENT* Enthusiasm and sustained interest are the two key factors in bringing a book like this one to culmination. In that regard we were well-supplied, but we could not have written this book had not others been equally enthused. Foremost was the help of Maxine Dougan, who provided us with many of our contacts. Her professional research abilities and tenacity are formidable and sustained this project from its inception to its conclusion. We cannot thank her enough. Eugene Holderman responded generously from our first conversation, happily sharing family memories and photos and providing us not only with an understanding of Dana Lamb's family background, but particulars of his life in California and New Mexico. During our visit to California, he devoted an entire day to showing us locales central to Dana and Ginger's life and explaining their importance. Maria Fellin graciously shared stories of Dana and Ginger's arrivalin Hillsboro, New Mexico and provided descriptions of several of the Lambs' short films. She described Dana's working methods, his life in Hillsboro, and his trip to the island of Yap to produce a film for Continental Airlines. She also showed us the bus that Dana and Ginger took on their travels into the Baja and on their lecture tours, and allowed us to photograph it. Sonja Rutledge reminisced fondly about Dana Lamb, describing him as a "gentle man, very well-liked" and provided insight into what Hillsboro was like at the time that Dana and Ginger moved there. Bud Lesser and Bob Weide, legendary Hollywood producers from eras half a century apart, guided our understanding of film and television in the Lambs' careers. Bud Lesser instructed us in the history of the documentary film, explained its transition to television as evidenced in his show Bold Journey, and supplied us with historical data pertaining to that show and the Lambs' participation in it. Bob Weide directed us to resources for the history of film and television and 217 ACKNOWLEDGMENTS sharpened our appreciation of how the industry has developed in our lifetimes. He was also a resource in helping us locate association items with the Lambs' Hollywood career. Dr. William O. Hendricks, Director of the Sherman Library, Corona del Mar, California, followed the progress of our work, personally sought out additional material on the Lambs housed in his archives, and brought them to our attention. Jill Thrasher, Dr. Hendricks' assistant, ably aided our research at the Sherman Library during our visit there in October 2003, making sure that our time was well-spent. Romain Wilhelmsen generously offered photographs of Dana and Ginger Lamb from his own collection. He shared manymemories, both personal and professional , of his long friendship with the Lambs. Cynthia Sweet provided research assistance and technical support, both invaluable to the project. She also gave the original typescript a methodical and unbiased reading.
