This list is designed with the jazz neophyte and today’s digital music consumer in mind. Rather than suggest expensive compact disc box sets, I have chosen to offer a list of individually available recordings that the reader can find on iTunes and other digital music sites. Be warned that in the digital music marketplace, which is free from the extensive liner notes of yesteryear, it is often hard to know which version of a song you are buying. With that, as well as the 78 RPM record collector in mind, I have listed individual recording dates, labels, and matrix and issue numbers to try and make sure that you buy the right version of “Muskrat Ramble” (There are dozens available).
