JSmith_201-240.indd 34 11/28/11 12:59 PM The Wisdom of Adam Smith was selected by John Haggarty, a London-based scriptwriter and playwright described by the Glasgow Evening Times as "of that special breed known as the Inquiring Scot." His selections were edited by Benjamin A. Rogge, Distinguished Professor of Political Economy at Wabash College. Dr. Rogge also writes the introduction. This book was photoset in the Times Roman series of type. The face was designed to be used in the news columns of the Times of London. The Times was seeking a typeface that would be condensed enough to accommodate a substantial number of words per column without sacrificing readability and still have an attractive, contemporary appearance. This design was an immediate success. It is used in many periodicals throughout the world and is one of the most popular textfaces presently in use for book work.
