DAVID WYATT was born in Lynwood, California, in 1948. He received a BA from Yale University in 1970 and a PhD from UC Berkeley in 1975. He is the author of two books on his native state, The Fall into Eden and Five Fires, and of a memoir about living through the fall of 2001 called And the War Came. In 2010 he published Secret Histories: Reading TwentiethCentury American Literature. He has taught at the University of Virginia and at Princeton University and is a member of the Department of English at the University of Maryland, where he is a Distinguished Scholar-Teacher.
