xiii Acknowledgments W E WOULD like to acknowledge the Russell Sage Foundation for its generous support of the program on trust and the trust book series. This is the ninth volume in the series. We thank Eric Wanner, president of the Russell Sage Foundation, in particular, for his continuous encouragement and occasional push to get this volume in print. We also thank the many staff members of the foundation who helped organize our workshops and conferences as well as our visits to the foundation for meetings.
