Glossary Abdomen The hindmost portion of an insect’s body. Ametamorphous a form of metamorphosis in which the immature resembles the adult stage but smaller; stages of development include the egg, nymph, and adult. Aposematic coloration Colors or patterns used by animals to indicate the presence of toxic chemicals. Biocontrol The use of naturally occurring enemies to control a pest. Cephalothorax The combined head and thorax of certain arthropods. Cercus (pl., cerci) Tail-like appendage on some insects. Chelicera (pl., chelicerae) Pincherlike mouthpart of some arthropods.
