175 September 11th Hearings March 26, 2004 Congratulations to the world’s people as millions came out this week, not simply to oppose the war in Iraq, but to oppose war. Also this week, on Capitol Hill, high level officials from the Clinton and Bush Administrations testified before the September 11th Commission, established to investigate why the U.S. failed to prevent the attacks in New York, Washington and Pennsylvania. Unfortunately, Ms. Rice would not testify. She was busy threatening Jamaica for welcoming President Jean Bertrand Aristide and telling that sovereign state to get rid of him, or else! At the 9/11 hearings, we heard a craving that more unilateral military force should have been used against al Qaeda. We did not hear any opposition to preventative war. Preventative war is illegal and is the stated reason for the condemnation of the Third Reich at Nuremberg. There was no discussion during the hearing in Washington about how we had the sympathy and support of the entire globe immediately after 9/11, and how after a few weeks of out of control violence against a nation that had no part in the 9/11 attacks, we lost the world’s sympathy and became the most hated polity on the planet. Any individual of common sense would know that our job after 9/11 was to reach out to 190 nations and say, “A terrible crime has been committed against us, please help us to apprehend the criminals responsible.” We would then have had the assistance of the international community. On the contrary, we were making fools of ourselves accusing everyone who differed with Mr. Bush of being a terrorist. And now we have Mr. Bush as a stand up comic attempting to make jokes about the missing weapons of mass destruction. At the very moment our troops are being killed in Iraq, an incompetent buffoon is joking about his incompetence. The families of our troops are rightfully outraged as their children die because of his lies. 176 Instead of showing any leadership, we have followed the example of our surrogate, Israel. We have made Iraq into Palestine. Members of our Congress like Lincoln Diaz Balart are proposing the assassination of Fidel Castro thereby following the example of Israel in its assassination of Sheikh Ahmed Yassin. The net effect of Mr. Bush’s tenure in office has been to make an international power out of al Qaeda. I am sure that al Qaeda will do everything possible to work for his first electoral victory.
