126 Anniversary of Hiroshima August 8, 2003 The Mayor of Hiroshima, Tadatoshi Akiba, says that Washington’s apparent worship of “nuclear weapons as God” is threatening world peace. And that worship is taking place this week as our nuclear war people meet to plan some great new models of nuclear obliteration. Indeed war normalizes insanity. And the plan to use nuclear weapons preemptively in a war is a double insanity Anyone plotting, planning or conspiring to commit nuclear warfare should charged, convicted and imprisoned. If such mental perverts do not annihilate millions of people overseas, it is quite possible they will be responsible for a nuclear accident which will annihilate millions at home. After months of babble about weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, we have found the actual program for the deployment of weapons of mass destruction right here in our country. Yes, they are preparing to build new nuclear weapons and resume nuclear testing. The plan calls for developing “more useable” nuclear weapons. They are threatening both nuclear and non-nuclear nations. Friends, its time to realize that we have used nuclear weapons every year since 1945. How? We use them the same way a bank robber uses a pistol to get money from the teller, takes the money and does not pull the trigger. He used a pistol and we have used nuclear weapons in the same fashion for 58 years. By some miracle we have not pulled the trigger. But now we have decided to make these planet busters more useable. That simply means they are more likely to be used. I have seen Hiroshima and I wish everyone could hear the bell toll at 8:15 AM on August 6th which marks the moment an atomic bomb from the United States abolished the beautiful city which is 429 miles southwest of Tokyo. For 60 seconds, tens of thousands of survivors and visitors from around the world bow in silence to commemorate the 160,000 people who were killed and injured in that crime against humanity. 127 Mayor Akiba referred to the “blazing hell fire that swept over this very spot 58 years ago,” and called all nuclear weapons, “utterly evil, inhumane and illegal under international law.” Let’s get it very clear, the testing and production of nuclear weapons is a reckless endangerment of the people of the United States and the rest of the people on this small planet. There is no security in building new nuclear weapons. Our security lies in abolishing the world’s nuclear arsenal, not in building new threats to our existence. ...
