152 Octavius the 1st Biographical Note Gaylord Brewer is a professor at Middle Tennessee State University , where he edits Poems & Plays. Two of his seven books of poetry were published by Red Hen, Devilfish (1999) and Barbaric Mercies (2003). His most recent collection, The Martini Diet (Dream Horse, 2008), won the 2006 Orphic Prize. Additional books include David Mamet and Film (McFarland, 1993) and Charles Bukowski (Twayne/Macmillan, 1997). He has published 700 poems in journals and anthologies, including Best American Poetry and The Bedford Introduction to Literature. Brewer’s most recent residencies were at the Global Arts Village (India) and a return to the Fundación Valparaíso (Spain).
