A C K N O W L E D G M E N T S I wish to express my gratitude to the many musicians of the Philadelphia Orchestra who shared their time and thoughts with me, in particular those who have played under the batons of all three maestros: William de Pasquale, co-concertmaster; Richard Woodhams, principal oboist; Lloyd Smith, acting associate principal cellist; Ronald Reuben, bass clarinetist; and Jerome Wigler, violinist ; as well as David Kim, concertmaster, who joined the Orchestra in 1999.
