Addendum to New Edition 251 This edition analysis was based on two primary sources archival and interviews. The archival material was collected by the author from the U.S. National Archives, documents released by Wikileaks, and the National Security Archive of George Washington University. These archival materials were valuable source shedding light on the changes in U.S. policy toward Colombia’s armed conflict confirming the importance of the United States’ role and its influence on the Colombia’s military doctrine and strategy. Colombian government publications were also important particularly those released by the Department of National Planning and its Department of Defense annual reports. Colombia’s leading newspapers El Tiempo and El Espectador and the weekly magazine Semana were also important sources as well as the publications of FARC and ELN, all of which are accessible online. These were supplemented with interviews with Colombian armed actors, officials, and business groups, which the author conducted between 2002 and 2012 and some of which were mentioned in the acknowledgment. The new chapters also drew on secondary sources particularly in the discussion of the cases of Angola and Nepal. The case of Sri Lanka drew on interviews with the Sri Lanka Diaspora in New York City and benefited from the insights of a Sri Lankan scholar and expert on his country’s conflict acknowledged in the introduction. ...
