After smokejumping, Jack served twenty-six years in the U.S. Army. He now spends winters in Florida fishing the backwaters and summers in Montana visiting friends, hiking, and enjoying the outdoors. Mrs. Bao V. Bliaya: wife of Mouasu Bliaya. In 1971 Bao was the second Hmong girl to come to the United States and the first Hmong girl to graduate from an American high school. In October 1972 Mouasu and Bao’s first son was the first Hmong born in the United States. Currently Bao is very happy being a grandmother. Mouasu Bliaya: Hmong friend of Jerry Daniels. High school exchange student from Laos to the United States, 1967–74. Mouasu graduated from Hellgate High School in Missoula. In 1974 he graduated with a B.S. from the University of Montana. Deeder Daniels: nephew of Jerry Daniels; first son of Kent Daniels. Deeder calls himself a “saler and a logger,” enjoying yard sales and logging onto the Internet. Missoula was the first town to receive Hmong refugees for resettlement, and Pat was the first nurse to work extensively with Hmong new arrivals in the United States. She retired in 2001. She lives in Missoula. Gregg Elovich: legal aid to seniors coordinator, Central California Legal Services, Fresno, California. Gregg has worked with the Southeast Asian community in Fresno for more than twenty years as a disability rights advocate. Rick Evans: former funeral director at Mountain View Mortuary, Missoula. Known to many people as Jon Jack, Jon was a smokejumper for twenty years. He is now retired from the U.S. Forest Service and lives in Grangeville, Idaho. Mrs. Moe Geary: wife of Helmville rancher Bill Geary. The Gearys are longtime friends of the Daniels family. Bill is a fifth-generation rancher in Helmville, Montana. Lee Gossett: former smokejumper [RDD ’57]; former Air America kicker, 1964–65; former Air America and Continental Air Services (CASI) fixed-wing pilot in Laos, 1966–72. Lee lives in Oregon. John R.
