A “MULIGAN” ROAST Pathfinders, Free Press Prairie Farmer September 7, 1938 Olive Kastaskuk (13) Vegreville, Alta. (Editor’s Note—You must have very good humoured neighbours, Olive. I am very afraid I would be pretty cross.) Dear Pathfinders, I am going to tell you about a real muligan roast. We start when it is just getting dark and to everyone’s horror (but ours) we actually take corn and potatoes out of other people’s gardens . Of course every person expects their corn and potatoes to be raided. They are every year. Then some of the gang run ahead and get heaps of wood and pile it real high, and then light it. We throw the potatoes in and then peel the corn. We keep the corn over the fire with green branches till the kernels pop. We take butter and salt and have a wonderful time eating corn around the blazing fire and telling stories. After the fire is just coals we take sticks and roll the potatoes out in the grass. They are very good with butter and salt. I would like tons of correspondence. I save movie stars and my favorite movie stars are Henry Fonda, Judy Garland, Sonja Heine and Jane Withers.
