The men and women who have devoted energy, faith and courage to the writing of the documents I have described and analyzed have demonstrated a commitment to the Church’s work in the areas of gender and/or human sexuality that goes beyond expectation. These have never been particularly easy areas in which to work; they have always been of great importance and have always required great risk. All the women whose stories of past and ongoing violence have motivated me to more closely examine how the church is responding to this issue.
