113 About the Author Craig H. Roell is a native of Victoria,Texas, the son of Henry R. and Ruth M. Roell. He earned his MA and PhD in history from the University of Texas at Austin and was Samuel Davis Postdoctoral Fellow in Business History at Ohio State University. Dr. Roell was a Nelda C. and H. J. Lutcher Stark Foundation Fellow inTexas Studies for theTexas State Historical Association’s New Handbook ofTexas project and was the major contributor to TSHA’s The Handbook of Victoria County (1990). His book Remember Goliad!A History of La Bahía (TSHA,1994) garnered a La Bahía Award from the Sons of the Republic of Texas, honored as the “Best ShorterWork inTexas History of theYear 1995—Outstanding Contribution in the Field of Spanish Colonial Period.”The University of North Carolina Press reissued his earlier book The Piano in America, 1890–1940 (1989),in its Enduring Editions series in 2009.He has contributed articles to The Piano: An Encyclopedia (2003), the Encyclopedia of Chicago (2004), the Encyclopedia of Leadership (2004), and the Encyclopedia of Recreation and Leisure inAmerica (2004).Dr.Roell is Professor of Economic,Business,and Cultural History at Georgia Southern University in Statesboro, where he was named Wells/Warren Professor of the Year (2002, 2013), and is profiled in Who’sWho in America, 2011 (2010).
