In 1924, the Monotype type foundry created Fournier MT based on types cut by Pierre Simon Fournier circa 1742. Rockwell’s letterforms belong to the Egyptian, or slab serif, group of letters. Technically a serif form, its serifs are the same weight as the vertical strokes. This treatment give the letters a voice similar to a sans serif face such as Franklin Gothic, named after notable American printer Benjamin Franklin. ...
