Abstract

Complementing the preceding case study, chapter 6 pursues further a renewed theology of religious pluralism rooted in the insights of the Philadelphia Area Women’s Multifaith Group. This chapter takes its cue from modern theological anthropologies that have focused on human beings and their ability to know, and presses the question of what interfaith knowledge is gained through dialogue. The discussion proposes that our ‘economies of knowledge’ are socially constructed and have material outcomes. This provides the basis for envisioning anew the sacred knowledge that is formed interreligiously. The constructive theology of this chapter pursues themes of eschatology in interfaith perspective. To the traditional responses of exclusivism, inclusivism and pluralism, this interreligious theology of religions proposes a realized eschatology of interfaith salvation.
