The conclusion points to the broader applicability of the analysis in defining justice, nationalism, and patriotism. It examines the impact of surname italianization in the Adriatic border territories, surname legislation reforms in the post-World War II period, and further reform efforts after 1989 to address the legacy of onomastic conflict and oppression. Concentrating on varying notions and opinions of justice, the chapter offers insight into local and national government interaction, not only in the Fascist government of the interwar period, but in the contemporary period as well. The chapter shows that the "rule of law" cited by legal professionals and judicial authorities relies as much on inconstant notions of justice and on political, cultural, and social beliefs as it does on legal texts, precedents, and juridical ideals and standards.
