about the author kazim ali is associate professor of creative writing and comparative literature at Oberlin College and teaches in the low-residency mfa program of the University of Southern Maine. He has also taught at Shippensburg University, Monroe Community College, the Culinary Institute of America, and NewYork University. Ali is the author of three books of poetry, The Fortieth Day (2008), The Far Mosque (2005), and the cross-genre Bright Felon: Autobiography and Cities (2009) as well as four books of prose: the novels The Disappearance of Seth (2009) and Quinn’s Passage (2005), and the essay collections Fasting for Ramadan (2011) and Orange Alert: Essays on Poetry,Art and the Architecture of Silence (2010). His poetry has been published extensively in many anthologies, including Best American Poetry 2007 and ContemporaryVoices from the East: A Norton Anthology, and magazines including American Poetry Review, Best American Poetry 2007, jubilat, Barrow Street, Boston Review, and Seattle Review. He has translated works by Sohrab Sepehri,Ananda Devi, and Marguerite Duras and is the co-editor of Jean Valentine: This-World Company (2012). He is one of the founding editors of Nightboat Books.
