This Is the Solution This is the solution: to be happy with slaughter; to be confident in theft; to be warm and loving in deception; to be aethetically pleased with unhappiness and, in agreement, to lie down in the blood of our innocence. Here I Am with Mike For Dan Rather Here I am, with mike in hand, shooting down the rapids in my business suit, broadcasting to the world my sensations as I near my death. Occasionally you hear me blubber, a wave having knocked against my mouth. But it all gets said, though when I plunge over the falls the force ofit will knock the mike out ofmy hand. In the meantime, I keep my head, reporting myself in fear, fright and elation at the experience I could have only by shortening my life. I'm enjoying it all. I Killed a Fly I killed a fly and laid my weapon next to it as one lays the weapon of a dead hero beside his body—thefly that tried to mount the window to its top; that was born out of a swamp to die in a bold effort beyond itself, and I am the one who brought it to an end. Tired of the day and with night coming on I lay my body down beside thefly.
