275 About the Author Todd A. Surovell is an assistant professor of anthropology at the University of Wyoming. After earning a bachelor’s degree in anthropology and zoology in 1995 at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, he went on to earn his doctorate at the University of Arizona in 2003. He has participated in archaeological research in the United States, Denmark, and Israel. Focusing on issues surrounding the colonization of the Americas, lithic technology, and geoarchaeology, his work applies formal mathe­ matical models and computer simulation to archaeological problems within a behavioral ecological framework. Integrating mathematical and archaeological approaches to the study of prehistoric hunter-gatherer decision making, Surovell has an extensive publication record addressing hunting strategies, demography, and archaeometry. Recent publications explore the predator-prey relationship between prehistoric hunters and their prey, and the spatial organization of activities at the Barger Gulch site. Surovell has spent the last ten years excavating Barger Gulch, a Folsom-aged campsite in Colorado, and has built upon his experiences with Folsom lithic technology to develop a novel and quantified approach to the archaeological interpretation of stone tools. ...
