201 About the Author David T. Z. Mindich is an assistant professor of journalism at Saint Michael’s College, Vermont, where he teaches writing, mass communication , journalism history, and new media. A former assignment editor for CNN, Mindich is also a longtime freelance print journalist; his articles have appeared in Media Studies Journal, New York Magazine, Quill, Christian Science Monitor, New York Newsday, Burlington Free Press, Journalism and Mass Communication Quarterly, American Journalism, and Journalism and Mass Communication Monographs. Mindich earned a Ph.D. in American Studies from New York University in 1996, where he was awarded a Dean’s Dissertation Fellowship. Mindich is also the head of the History Division of the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication and the founder of Jhistory, an Internet group for journalism historians.
