Acknowledgments Our greatest debt is, of course, to Clementina Todesco, our storyteller, who with grace and patience allowed herself to be interviewed for this book. John Todesco, her husband, was supportive and encouraging. Ben Todesco provided the photographs of Bruna, Clementina, and John. The people of Faller provided valuable information about the history of this North Italian village . We are especially grateful to the ten present-day storytellers in the village who continue to tell stories and who recounted their tales with great charm during our interviews: Brigida DalZot, Cicilia DalZot, Flora Moretto, Filomena Slongo, Florentina Slongo, Stella Slongo, Carolina and Piero Todesco, Ruffina Todesco, and Maria Trento. Mariotti Pedrazzoli of Val di Sole, Mezzana, made a superb translation of the tales and information collected in the Faller dialect into standard Italian. Dott. Mara Bini Babi and Dott.
