We’ve been able to share good times and many special occasions—sold-out arena concerts, weddings, sailboat victories, his induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame—and haven’t pissed him off, too much, over the years. It’s been a pleasure to delve deeply into what has become an almost mythic period of his career and to bring his fans a unique and largely untapped perspective into it. We’d like to thank the folks at Wayne State University Press, especially Jane Hoehner and Kathryn Wildfong, for helping to take this project from our heads and hearts and turn it into a book.
