Much of the verbal descriptive material accompanying the photographs in this book is to be credited to the many curators who over the years have examined the artifacts and noted pertinent facts about each one. These notes are often only initialed by curators , thus leaving their identity quite obscure. Their sizable contribution as a group, however, must be recognized.
