ABOUT THE AUTHOR Dora Apel is the author of Imagery of Lynching: Black Men, White Women, and the Mob; Memory Effects: The Holocaust and the Art of Secondary Witnessing; and Lynching Photographs, coauthored with Shawn Michelle Smith. She has written articles and essays for journals such as The Art Bulletin, Art Journal, Oxford Art Journal, New German Critique, American Quarterly, Dissent, Journal of Visual Culture, Mississippi Quarterly, and Left History; for the online journals OpenDemocracy and Other Voices; and has contributed chapters to the edited volumes What Is Radical Politics Today?, The Oxford Handbook of Holocaust Studies, and Visual Culture and the Holocaust . Her articles have been translated into Polish and Hungarian and reprinted in the edited volumes The Uncertain States of America Reader and Krzysztof Wodiczko.
