About the Authors Saundra D. Westervelt lives in Greensboro, North Carolina, with her husband, Van, and their son, Drew. She is an associate professor of sociology at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Her broad areas of interest include criminology and the sociology of law, but her more recent work has focused on miscarriages of justice. Her earlier work includes Shifting the Blame: How Victimization Became a Criminal Defense (1998) and Wrongly Convicted: Perspectives on Failed Justice (2001, with John Humphrey), both with Rutgers University Press. In her spare time, she enjoys traveling with her family and chasing turtles with her son. Kimberly J. Cook lives in Wilmington, North Carolina. She is a professor and chair in the Department of Sociology and Criminology at the University of North Carolina Wilmington. Her areas of interest include capital punishment, restorative justice, violence against women, and social justice. Her earlier work includes Divided Passions: Public Opinions on Abortion and the Death Penalty (1998), published by Northeastern University Press.
