Select Bibliography The following is a sampling of the books, journal articles, and occasional papers dealing with the history of armor and mechanization, as well as related supporting topics, that the editors and contributors used in crafting their histories. For reference to primary sources the authors used, see the endnotes accompanying each chapter. The notes direct the reader to a rich repository of material acquired from the Modern Military Records Division in the National Archives, the U.S. Army Military History Institute (USAMHI) and Army War College archives, the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College (CGSC), the Armor School Library at Fort Knox, the U.S. Marine Corps History and Museums Division, and the Command and General Staff College of the Marine Corps University. The Patton Museum of Cavalry and Armor at Fort Knox holds the huge Col. Robert J. Icks collection of books, photographs, and published and unpublished manuscripts on armor. Aberdeen Proving Ground has a collection of photographs and information on the test and evaluation of armored vehicles and is the home of the U.S. Army Ordnance Museum. In addition, there are listed in the chapter endnotes sources acquired from the U.S. Army TACOM and associated industrial functions, combat arms schools, congressional reports, master's theses, and doctoral dissertations that were used in crafting this armor history. For an excellent history of U.S. armor technology see the numerous works by Richard P. Hunnicutt. An excellent one-volume reference is Fred W. Crismon's U.S. Military Tracked Vehicles (1992). For an international reference for all fighting vehicles in the world, see the 18th edition of Jane's Armour and Artillery. A superb recent short history of U.S. tank development is Robert S.
