After she got married, they continued to live here but moved out on the Old Morgantown Road after they had this little baby girl. The house that they moved into there on the Morgantown Road was an old three-story structure that was surrounded by a big lot. And, boy, you talk about a spooky place, that was it! I mean odd things took place there in this old house, such as doors slamming, lights flashing, and weird noises like the sounds made by spooks. Lots of times, things there in the house that were part of their personal belongings would turn up missing. The old house that they lived in had an upstairs, and for some reason Kay's family always felt as if something strange lived up there. You know, something like a ghostly being. Well, one day their little girl was in school, and she drew a picture of the house that had her and her parents looking out three ofthe windows. She also sketched an old man looking out ofone ofthe upstairs windows, and told her teacher that this old man lived there in the house with them. Apparently she had seen him in the house. Wow, what the little girl must have felt ifshe did see him, knowing that he wasn't supposed to be there. The old house also had a basement. And one day, while cleaning the basement, Kay's husband found a door that had been bolted shut. He pulled on it and he tugged on it, but it would not open. He finally got a pry bar and forced the door open. And guess what? He found a skeleton in behind that old door. It scared the dickens out ofhim, as he figured that the bones 2 Ghosts across Kentucky were those of someone who had been murdered and hidden there in the basement behind this door. One day while they were cleaning up the backside of the lot surrounding the house, Kay and her husband found an old family cemetery with a dozen or so gravestones that had been totally engulfed with tall weeds and bushes. You couldn't even see these old gravestones from the house. They were just in a patch ofweeds and bushes. Kay and her husband and little girl began cleaning up around the stones. While mowing around the stones, they noticed that one of them had fallen over and was laying there flat on the ground. They picked the stone up and saw that it had a little girl's name on it, a little thing that had died when she was just six years old. Kay's husband sat the stone up and fIxed it so that it would not fall over again. After he did this, all of the strange things that they had heard, felt, and seen in and around the old house stopped completely. It was as if whatever had been bothering them had been put to rest. They fIgured that it was the spirit ofthe little girl. The little girl was now at rest in her grave. A lot ofpeople around here have always said that ifanything about a dead person's grave is bothered, that person's spirit will be seen or felt at or near the place where the body was buried. Oh-h-h-h-h, that makes me shudder just to think that such a thing could happen and that I might be the person to witness the eerie things that will take place if it does. 2. ~~The GhOSl of a Man in a Clraveyard HoLding a Baby" Before my husband and I got married, we used to go together to church a lot. In the summer of 1972, before we got married that October, we were sitting at a Sunday night service at the Free Union Separate Baptist Church in Adair County. That was the family's church. The two of us were sitting together, toward the back of the church, on the left-hand side. That was the side nearest the church graveyard, but we didn't think a thing about the graveyard while we were sitting there.
