Appendix B Sponemann Site, Sponemann Phase, Community 3 Ubiquity, and Exclusivity Indices To analyze the UIs and EIs of Community 3, I listed and analytically marked and extracted from the sitewide features all the sampled features from Cluster 3 (constituting Community 3) and then subdivided these into the northwestern sector (3b) and the southeastern sector (3a), following the division made by the excavators of the site. The same procedure as outlined in Appendix A for the sitewide analysis of UIs and EIs was then carried out, except that it was limited to Cluster 3 of the Community 3 boundaries. Because the clusterwide EI and UI patterning was similar to the sitewide patterning, I decided that it was not necessary to compute the EI/UI ratios or the modified EIs. Since I compared the distribution of seeds and maize in Community 3 to that of the total site and also compared their distribution between the northwestern and southeastern sectors, I had to prepare one overall table, Table B.1 (with sector distribution distinguished by boldface and italics). To generate the UIs and EIs for Community 3, I followed the same procedure as I used for the sitewide analysis. However, the UI and EI for each species in Community 3 also have beside them the UIs and EIs for the northwestern and southeastern sectors. Table B.2 is similar to Table A.2 in that it sorts out all the features containing maize in Community 3, subdivided between sectors 3a and 3b (and again distinguished by boldface and italics). Table B.3 focuses on only the seed-containing features in Community 3, subdivided between sectors 3a and 3b. The UIs and EIs for all five targeted species of Community 3, clusterwide, were then computed individually (as shown in Tables B.4 through B.9).
