Macchi M.5: A speedy, maneuverable, single-seat, flying boat fighter introduced in autumn 1917 and used at Bolsena and NAS Porto Corsini. Developed by Nieuport-Macchi company of Varese. L 26' 2"; MWS 39' ½" MW 2,266 lbs; MS 118 mph; PP 160 hp Isotta-Fraschini; AR two Vickers guns. Macchi M.8: a relatively small, two-place, reconnaissance/bomber flying boat introduced in 1917, somewhat larger version of M.5. Used at NAS Porto Corsini. Curtiss HS-1/2L: The Curtiss HS type was a smaller, single-engine patrol flying boat. Used at NAS L’Aber Vrach, Ile Tudy, Tréguier, Arcachon, and elsewhere . F2A: A British-developed evolution of the Curtiss “America” type flying boat used extensively over the North Sea. Used at NAS Killingholme.
