PREFACE TO THE SECOND EDITION Since the publication of the first edition of Flowering Rush to Rushes in 1970, twenty-one additional taxa ofplants covered by this book have been discovered in Illinois. In addition, numerous nomenclatural changes have occurred for plants already known from the state, and a myriad of new county records have been added. This second edition ofFlowering Rush to Rushes is intended to update the status for the plant families covered in this book. New illustrations have been provided for all of the additions expept Tradescanta subaspera val'. montana and Najas guadalupensis ssp. olivacea. All previously unpublished illustrations have been prepared by Paul W. Nelson, except for Sagittariaplatyphylla and Juncus validus, which were prepared by Mark W. Mohlenbrock; and Heteranthera multiflora and Eichhornia crassipes, which wcre prepared by Phyllis Bick and are reprinted from Steyermark's Flora ofMissouri, published by the Missouri Department of Conservation and the Missouri Botanical Garden Press. xiii ...
