Robert H. Mohlenbrock has been studying the Illinois flora since his junior year in high school in Murphysboro, a period spanning more than forty years. During that time he has published scores of scientific and popular articles about the plants of the state. In addition to the monumental and highly acclaimed Illustrated Flora of Illinois series, of which Nightshades to Mistletoe is the thirteenth volume, he has published Guide to the Vascular Flora of Illinois: Revised and Enlarged Edition. He has also published on United States national forests and endangered plants of North America, and is a monthly columnist for Natural History magazine. Since 1957, Dr. Mohlenbrock has been on the faculty of Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, where he has directed eighty-six students to the successful completion of their graduate degrees. In 1985, he received the prestigious rank of Distinguished Professor, and, in 1988, was named Outstanding Scholar of the University. ...
