Appendix Chronological Listing of Hemingway’s First 53 Stories by Date of Completion Adopted from Paul Smith, A Reader’s Guide to the Short Stories of Ernest Hemingway When a story first appeared under a different title before it was collected, and also in the case of the two vignettes from in our time later elevated to the status of stories in In Our Time, the original title appears in parentheses in the first column under the final title. An asterisk next to the date in the “1st Published” column indicates that the story was initially published in a magazine, journal, or anthology before it was collected in the book listed in the “1st Collected” column.
