Two other narratives included in this volume have been linguistically analyzed elsewhere: The First Meeting of the Indians and the Europeans (Kimball 1991:580—603) and The Clawed Witches (Kimball 1993b). The linguistic terminology used is from Kimball (1991), with the difference that singular verbs are not specially marked, the two subjunctives are not distinguished, and no differentiation is made between the various elements that fall into the adverbial and modal slots.
