281 NOTE ON SOURCES Minoru Masuda’s World War II letters to his wife, Hana, are located in his papers in the University of Washington Archives. This collection also includes excerpts from the Medical Detachment Daily Log, used to provide context in this book. In addition, publications of the 442nd Combat Team are found in Masuda’s papers: The Album, a yearbook-style account of training; the 442nd Newsletter; the 442nd Combat Team History; and a pamphlet entitled Go For Broke (cited below). I used information from these sources to compose the brief notations on the strategy and action of the unit. Hana Masuda wrote her recollections in 1989–1990, as the need for more explanation of her activities during the war became apparent.
