Selected Bibliography AJBP = Archivo Juan Bautista Plaza (Juan Bautista Plaza Archive), Caracas, Venezuela I include here only the sources cited, and a very small number of others. For a more extensive bibliography see my dissertation “Musical Nationalism in Venezuela : The Work of Juan Bautista Plaza (1898–1965).” That bibliography includes information on reprints, which I do not list here. Much of the information presented in the foregoing study is drawn from newspaper and magazine clippings preserved in the Archivo Juan Bautista Plaza. The clippings in that archive are usually identified in handwriting with the source and the date, although a few lack this information. Some of the handwritten identifications have proven to be incorrect, although the ones in Plaza’s handwriting are generally reliable because he was careful about detail. When I cite a source for which I did not verify the handwritten bibliographic information, I list it as follows: [Author]. [Title of article]. Clipping in AJBP identified as coming from [Name of periodical and city], [Date]. In citing newspaper articles I have almost always omitted the “kickers,” that is, the brief description of the general topic area or genre, printed in smaller type above the title. On the other hand, the subtitles—which are printed in smaller type below the title—are included here because they provide valuable information about the content of the article.
