Richard Sisson, a native midwesterner, is Provost and Professor of Political Science Emeritus at The Ohio State University where he held the Board of Trustees Chair in Comparative Politics. A member of the faculty at UCLA for twenty-five years, he also served as Senior Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs. His more recent books include War and Secession (with Leo E. Rose); The Evolution of Political Knowledge, 2 vols. (with Edward D. Mansfield); and Ohio and the World, 1753–2053 (with Geoffrey Parker and William Russell Coil). Christian Zacher is Professor of English at The Ohio State University and Director of its Institute for Collaborative Research and Public Humanities. A scholar of medieval English literature, he is author or coeditor of various essays and books on medieval literature and culture, including Critical Studies of Sir Gawain and the Green Knight (with Donald Howard), The Idea of Medieval Literature (with James Dean), and Curiosity and Pilgrimage. Like his fellow general editors , he brings to the encyclopedia a longtime resident ’s knowledge of the Midwest. At the institute he is co-organizer of a living history Chautauqua program and oversees other projects designed to extend the humanities to the general public. Andrew Cayton is Distinguished Professor of History at Miami University, Oxford, Ohio.
