Sean Burns (www.seanburns.net) is a teacher, musician, and gardener. Since graduating from Georgetown University in 1995 he has taught a wide range of humanities and social science courses at both the high school and university level. His research and teaching interests center on the history, culture , and politics of progressive social movements. He earned his Ph.D. in the history of consciousness department at the University of California, Santa Cruz. His band, Professor Burns and the Lilac Field, is rooted in Berkeley, Calif. Nick Spitzer is the voice and creator of public radio’s American Routes. He is professor of anthropology and American studies at Tulane University in New Orleans.
