Karris has produced a masterful scholarly work in this commentary. His self-conscious footing in the present, expressed through critical notes and comments, helps steer the work away from some kind of medieval fundamentalism. As a work of historical theologizing, Bonaventure's commentary is an invaluable witness to its age as well as to the biblical interpretation that was long a mainstay of Catholic hermeneutics and preaching.
