Marx & Engels Collected Works Vol 42: Marx and Engels:1864-1868

The Marx/Engels Collected Works is the largest collection of translations of the complete works of Karl Marx and Frederick Engels covering the period 1835-1895. The 50 volumes contain all the written works of Marx and Engels including formerly unpublished manuscripts and letters. The volumes are organised into three groups: (1) philosophical, historical, political, economic and other works, in chronological order; (2) Marx’s Capital with his preliminary versions and works directly connected with it, particularly the Economic Manuscripts of 1857-58, better known under the editorial heading Grundisse der Kritik der Politischen Okonomie ; (3) the letters of Marx and Engels which are extremely rich in theoretical content and provide an indispensable source for the study of the biographies of Marx and Engels. This digital collection gives scholars access to the complete oeuvre in a fully searchable format. Volume 42 contains the letters of Marx and Engels to each other and to third persons from October 1864 to March 1868. This period is marked by the two most important events in the history of the international working-class and communist movement – the foundation of the International Working Men’s Association (the First International) and the publication of Volume One of Capital. The letters show how Marx and Engels theoretical work was closely linked with the working-class movement. The letters deal with the state of the movement, major international events and political life of different countries; they also illuminate the personalities and characters of Marx and Engels, on the specific features of their work, the conditions under which they lived and in particular on their remarkable friendship.
